Scholarship Tests are designed to identify and support educationally gifted students through scholarships across Australia. Participants must demonstrate a broad spectrum of skills — including comprehension, inference, deduction, and critical thinking. The tests go beyond the school curriculum and are not meant to assess rote knowledge alone, so genuine, targeted practice makes a measurable difference.
Selective Trial mirrors the real ACER-style experience: timed papers, authentic question formats, full worked solutions, performance graphs and writing marked by experienced Australian tutors. Our practice Scholarship tests are categorised into two main levels:
At the primary level, candidates undertake three tests:
Reading & Viewing — a 30-minute multiple-choice questionnaire with 25 questions, evaluating comprehension and interpretation of written and visual content across subjects.
Mathematics — multiple-choice format, 30 minutes with 20 questions, assessing mathematical reasoning and basic operations.
Writing — 40 minutes to craft two short written responses to separate prompts, focusing on the quality of ideas and language.
For the secondary level there are several parts:
Written Expression — creative writing across two prompts. The emphasis is on quality of expression and ideas rather than length, judged on thought & content, structure & organisation, and expression & style.
Humanities — Comprehension & Interpretation — MCQ based, 40 minutes, covering English, Art, History, Geography and Social Studies. Between 40 and 45 questions, each with four options (A, B, C, D).
Mathematics — measures mathematical and scientific skill (Skills Levels 1, 2 and Scientific skills Level 2). Between 32 and 36 multiple-choice questions.
The single best technique is to practise more and more. Visit the official ACER Scholarship website for full details of the actual test: acer.org/au/scholarship.
