Introduction
Selective School Entry Test
2025 NSW Actual Test Date: Friday 2 May to Sunday 4 May 2025
The selective school entry test is a comprehensive assessment designed to evaluate student’s academic capabilities and critical thinking skills, which are crucial for admission to selective high schools. This test plays a pivotal role in determining a student’s suitability for advanced educational environments, focusing on their ability to excel in various academic areas.
Each student’s performance in this test is meticulously evaluated and scored within specific bands. These bands represent a range of scores that reflect the student’s proficiency in the tested areas. Achieving a score within the required band is essential for securing placement in the desired selective high school.
Furthermore, for entry into Year 7, the NSW Selective High School Placement Test comprises four distinct segments. These include three multiple-choice tests covering reading, thinking skills, and mathematical reasoning, each designed to assess different facets of a student’s academic prowess. The reading test evaluates comprehension and interpretation skills; the thinking skills test examines logical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities; and the mathematical reasoning test assesses numerical and spatial understanding. Additionally, a writing task provides insights into students’ creative and expressive abilities, evaluating their proficiency in constructing coherent, well-structured written responses.
It’s also worth mentioning that primary schools are not obligated to submit school assessment scores for this test. This policy underscores the test’s focus on individual student performance, ensuring that the selection process is based solely on the merits and abilities demonstrated during the test.
Selective High Schools offer an extra challenge for academically gifted children. Students who want to enrol in these schools should go through a highly competitive exam held every year in May. A new selective high school placement test has been developed for 2021.
Is your child preparing for a selective school test? You’re in the right place. Review::
Without feedback, it is impossible to get the same question right without any help. Feedback is crucial when building up your child’s stamina in getting the same type of question right the next time. Also, find out the reason why your child got the question wrong in the first place; and fixing them to grant them entry into their dream school, and the final result from the Exam will be a function of your child’s capabilities. Parents will be able to view the student’s performance relative to their peers and see the performance per question type and topic.
